WELCOME TO bark belly bites
Where homemade dog food doesn’t need to be complicated!
Here at Bark Belly Bites, I share dog food recipes written by me that are easy to make with just a handful of ingredients. Making homemade dog treats, special occasion puppy cupcakes or slow cooker dog food for the week, doesn’t need to take a lot of time or break the bank.… because our pets deserve the very best we can give them!
Hi, I’m Heather! I am a food blogger and the hired help to FIVE demanding yet lovable fur babies.
Here at Bark Belly Bites, I share dog food recipes written by me that are easy to make with just a handful of ingredients… because serving up fun and fresh food shouldn’t be complicated.
Want to serve up grass fed, grain-free and organic to your pups? Go for it!!! Totally ok with grabbing inexpensive ingredients from your grocery store? Totally cool!! Farmers market shopper working with only local sourced fresh ingredients? I got you!!
To me, in a perfect world, we would all be able to afford the very best ingredients to feed our pets. But that’s not always the way things work out so I would rather grab a package of ground turkey from the supermarket and treat my dogs than serve up processed kibble 24/7.
Do I still feed my dogs dry dog food? Yes.. I have FIVE dogs and am sadly still not a lottery winner.. lol!! But a little bit of good goes a long way and my dogs love the homemade fresh treats I make for them. That matters more to me than NOT doing it just because the ingredients aren’t organic.
The best part? Because you control the ingredients, you know freshness is guaranteed and it’s WAY better for your pups than that bag of processed kibble… because our pets deserve the very best we can give them!
I strive to create a vibrant community of food lovers who share my love for fun food ideas for our dogs, crazy pup adventures, and most importantly… our four legged best friends.
But Bark Belly Bites is more than just recipes – it’s a gathering place for like-minded dog lovers and food enthusiasts. Join our community and connect with fellow dog spoilers, share your kitchen triumphs and worst day ever puppy stories and make some amazing food for the fur babies.

WHAT I DON’T DO HERE
I am not trying to be anything I’m not so you won’t see me criticizing techniques, ingredient preferences (organic vs. Walmart) or other dog food bloggers. I will give you tips and tricks, teach you what I know and offer suggestions when it comes to substitutions and variations but in the end, cook what you love!
I have put potato chips, mustard, Kraft singles and sweet pickles on my bologna sandwiches for the past 40+ years because it makes me happy.. I am no ones judge! #truestory
FUN FACTS ABOUT ME
- I started my first food blog (A Wicked Whisk) about 10 years ago without any knowledge about blogging. I was buying my first house, my stress level was at a homicidal level, I needed a creative outlet. It was originally supposed to be a blog about Halloween prop building, DIY home renovation and maybe a recipe or two…
- Speaking of Halloween, me and my husband are huge Halloween people. We build a lot of our own props and put on a yard haunt every year for about 400 kids in our neighborhood.
- We currently have five dogs. A boxer, a boxer mastiff, an American bulldog /pittie mix, a chubby little staffy who loves to swim and a Lola who is a mishmash. They have more followers and fans than I do.
- Best described as a classic country music snob, Queen of Halloween and coffee addict.
- Food is my passion. Food is love and food is adventure.

the dogs have been
fed, don’t belive the lies
