Red and blue dog safe food coloring (gel or paste preferred)
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F. Call your dog into the kitchen. They know what’s up.
Mix the peanut butter, applesauce, and chicken broth until smooth.
Stir in your flour a little at a time until a dough forms.
Roll it out between 1/4 - 1/2 inch and cut into star shapes with a cookie cutter. No star cutter? Use any shape—your dog won’t judge.
Bake for 15-17 minutes, then cool completely.
While they cool, mix your icing ingredients together in a shallow bowl. Dab and swirl your red and blue colors in with a toothpick or small spoon.
Holding your cookies firmly, dip straight down into the swirls, pull your cookies straight up and move them to a plate, baking sheet or cooling rack while the icing sets.
Once the icing is hard, snap a few pics, and hand one.. or five.. over to your (very patient) pup
Notes
Tips and Tricks
Make sure your peanut butter is xylitol-free (that stuff is dangerous for dogs).
Don’t overbake.. they’re better soft! (Looking at you, past-me…)
Store in an airtight container for up to a week in the fridge or freeze them for later snack attacks.
I like using a stainless chopstick to do my swirling .. I am too uncoordinated to be playing with toothpicks
Gloves are not a bad idea if you are a messy icing-er like I am ..food coloring can sometimes stain your fingers.
